One of the most unusual objects, which remained in Kazan as a legacy of the Universiade 2013, can be considered the center of rowing sports. In the conditions of engineering difficulties (52 km of cables are hidden under the water of the Middle wild Boar) and expensive equipment (boats stand as cars), the center faces the task of developing two specific sports in Tatarstan — rowing and Canoeing. "BUSINESS Online" figured out how to cope with this task.
"PREVIOUSLY, THERE WAS NOTHING»
When the center of rowing sports does not accept competitions, the object belonging to the Volga region Academy of sports and tourism, from the outside seems to be the most peaceful place in Kazan. Quiet green area, the water surface of the lake Middle wild Boar, well-kept area, spacious hangars (here they are called boathouses; from the Dutch helling), where boats and equipment are stored, and even a couple of white swans living here.
But life in the center of rowing is constantly in full swing. Now here in front of one of the all-Russian competitions establish mechanisms that keep the boat before the start, and then would let them go. On water are scattered orange buoys — they mark pathways. In rowing distance length — 2 km, in rowing and Canoeing — 1 km, the width is also different (13 m against 9). In a nutshell, in the first form athletes row back to the finish line, in the second — face.
To academics not competed at the distance for canoes and Vice versa, buoys are constantly changing their position and moving from one of the ropes secured at a depth of 1.5 m from the surface of the lake to the other. The total length of cables under water (and this may surprise you) is 52 kilometers. They are mounted on 49 winches fixed on the banks. The center of rowing is rightly called the most difficult from an engineering point of view object, which was built in Kazan for the Universiade 2013.
All designs are supported in the right conditions by a team of 16 people. A lot of things have to be dismantled for the winter, updated, cleaned of mud and algae. Marat Mingulov heads the engineering team. "There was nothing here before," he recalls. The wasteland was used for waste located near the CHP, then the land was transferred to the "Gorvodzelenkhoz" and just began to fill up with soil.
Despite the absence of the object in the past, rowing in Tatarstan were actively engaged. "In Soviet times, only the Boar had 6 rowing bases," says albert Karimov, Director of the rowing center.
The teacher of the Volga region Academy Vladimir Gogolin found that era personally: "there Were two societies — "Spartak" and "Dynamo". We put a United team on the tournaments. The championship of Russia for us in General was like a domestic competition — always won, and in the USSR championship consistently included in the top three".
"THIS SPORT IS ADDICTIVE»
Today, the rowing center holds 17 tournaments a year. In terms of equipment in Russia, only the Moscow rowing canal, built for the 1980 Olympics, can compete with the object.
"There are only a few such objects as ours, — Karimov is sure. — The channel in Moscow is really much more extensive, but by standards we can hold competitions of the same level as Krylatskoye".
In addition to Kazan and Moscow, there are facilities in Krasnodar and Rostov. Another one is being built in Astrakhan. Despite the great popularity in the USSR, with the collapse of the Union sport ceased to develop systematically. Now he has only local foci.
"Rowing itself is an expensive sport, — Karimov said. — Not everyone can afford to buy their own equipment and go to the pond. There must be a binding to a large object. In those areas and edges, where there is no water, and rowed there is no. And where there is water, not the fact that there is an object".
The situation has changed recently. Promising is the project of the Minister of justice of the Russian Federation Alexander Konovalov, candidate master of sports in rowing. Recently, he oversees the student rowing League, which now has more than 40 universities in Russia, and the team of rowers of the Volga Academy of sports is the leader in the overall ranking.
In addition to Konovalov, rowing, of course, affects the Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev. In his youth he was engaged in Canoeing. Not without his participation rowing species were included in the program of the Kazan Universiade, and the complex of buildings of the center of rowing species included rowing pool, hotel and sports and recreation complex. These facilities allowed the Volga region Academy to load the object after the Universiade.
"After the World student games, we had to fill a large modern and very specific object with life, — said the rector of the Volga region Academy Yusup Yakubov. — No one had such experience in Kazan. We began to search for coaches who were not in the city, and specialists, without whom the maintenance of complex structures of the rowing center is impossible. Today, our students not only study, train and compete at the facility, but also the youth rowing team of Russia, the adult Paralympic team of the country, holds a number of the largest all-Russian competitions on a regular basis. For the universities of the Republic, we annually hold a "Student regatta", where student teams of Amateurs compete on dragon boats."
Yakubov himself at one time also engaged in rowing. "This sport is addictive," he said.
"COLLEAGUES IN THE GOOD ENVY US»
From the point of view of improvement and formation of the body structure of rowing, perhaps the most effective sport. Here are involved almost all muscle groups: legs give a push, the body stretches up and down, hands control the oars. In many ways, therefore, the rowing machine (which was engaged in the character of Kevin spacey in the series "house of Cards") can be found absolutely in any fitness center.
"Rowing by its nature refers to cyclic sports, which also includes skiing, swimming, athletics, — says Karimov. What does that mean? That we have a constant, long-term load on endurance. In some kinds of need only explosive force, we also need to find a balance."
"We must have both strength and endurance, — says Gogolin. — We increase one — we lose another. The approach should be comprehensive."
In rowing very strict requirements for growth: if you are below 185 cm, the chances of success are almost zero. In addition to physical data, coaches look closely to the sociability of their athletes. If we are talking, for example, about the eight, one person is not able to pull the team under any circumstances. But the opposite situation is possible: the team can lose because of the mistakes of one person. If you are not ready to accept it and can not work in a team, in rowing you will not work.
In the UK, which is as important for rowing as Brazil is for football and the US is for basketball, it is easier for rowers to find a job at the end of their career. According to Karimov, if there is a choice between two candidates, one of whom has achieved sports success in this sport, and the other — no, the employer will choose the first. "Konovalov in the student rowing League also wants to raise this topic, — says Gogolin. — Our athletes can be good leaders because they have all the thoughts in the team." Among Gogolin's pupils there are a lot of those who now hold high positions in different regions of the country.
Approaches to the development of rowing in Britain and Russia, of course, different. "Just imagine: one Thames gets along 20 rowing clubs - States the fact Karimov. — Athletes — not necessarily professionals and not necessarily members of student teams — just get together, buy their equipment and rent a hangar next to the water."
In Russia, the club system in rowing is not developed. There are DYUSSH, University teams and, of course, teams. Plus, in this system you can do without additional financial burden, minus — there are not enough places for everyone. It is not clear if the slope at a high athletic performance or for rehabilitation and mass. The cost of boats varies from 500 thousand to 3 million rubles. Comparable to a car.
"Colleagues in a good envy that we have such an object, always praised," says Gogolin. Every year he faces the task of attracting 25 young promising rowers to the Academy for training in the specialty "academic rowing and Canoeing". Each time with representatives of Tatarstan in this sport it is more and more difficult. "In 2018, we scored 6 of Tatarstan, — says Vladimir. — For 6 years that I work at the Academy, this is the best result. In 2019, there are no applicants from the Republic, they come to us from Togliatti, Samara, Nizhny Novgorod and Moscow region."
The most obvious resource for strengthening the student team is the only youth rowing sports school in Tatarstan, whose students also use the opportunities of the Kazan center. As of 2018, 450 people were engaged there. As noted with regret Gogolin, only a very small percentage of pupils DYUSSH continue classes as a student. "There is no task to improve sports skills, — says the coach. — Engaged in recovery. On superiority of the Republic lag between rivals — kilometer. What kind of development can we talk about? Here and go after these schools all somewhere".
Shamil Ageev himself competes in the veteran League in rowing
Team Academy however is a student rowing League. The University supports the team — equips and sends to the training camps and competitions. Mutually beneficial cooperation has developed with the veterans of rowing, who not only use the capabilities of the object, but also instruct young people, help financially. Chairman of the chamber of Commerce and industry of Tatarstan Shamil Ageev himself competes in the veteran League in rowing and sponsored the trip of the student eight to the European student championship. "Thanks to Ageev, we were able to enter the tournament, now we are preparing to go to the competitions in Sweden, to test our strength among the strongest crews," says Gogolin.
